Richard Stanley

Richard Stanley is a veteran real estate agent in the Los Feliz, Hollywood Hills, Silver Lake and Echo Park areas of Los Angeles. He moved to this area in 1978 and has lived locally ever since. After earning his real estate license in 1987, he joined the architectural and historic properties boutique, Mossler, Deasy and Doe, and worked mostly in his home neighborhoods. Two years later, in 1989, he joined the premier real estate brokerage in Los Angeles, the Jon Douglas Company, at their Los Feliz office. Coldwell Banker absorbed the Jon Douglas Company in the mid-1990s. Despite the name change, Richard has been with the same office ever since.

His first love in real estate is his home market’s rich legacy of first-rate residential and historic architecture, however, the same renown architects lent their talents to many local commercial projects as well. Over the years, Richard has represented residential and commercial properties by historic architects such as Richard Neutra, Rudolf Schindler, Gregory Ain, Wallace Neff, Harwell Hamilton Harris, Elmer Gray, Sumner Spaulding and Lester Scherer, as well as contemporary architects such as Wes Jones and Tony Unruh. Though most of his practice is of a residential nature, he regularly represents smaller office, light industrial and other commercial properties. Over the past 30 years in the business, Richard was the top-producing residential agent in his office at least 15 times.

Richard holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Albright College, Reading, PA and a master’s degree in fine art, photography, from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY. He has served on many local boards, including the Los Feliz Improvement Association, the Laughlin Park Association, the Friends of Griffith Park and the Antiquarian Society. He lectures regularly at the Los Feliz Library on the arts. During the first five years of the Los Feliz Ledger newspaper, Richard was the real estate columnist. He collects antique and Classic automobiles and is a regular contributor of articles on automotive history.

Richard has lived in his primary market area since 1978. In 1994, he purchased a foreclosed house in Los Feliz’s Laughlin Park. The house, designed and built by supermarket heir, Walter Ralphs, Jr. in 1953 as his bachelor pad, took six months and a broken piggy bank to restore. Richard has live there since. The house may be seen at www.theralphshouse.com.
